Ryan Hickman CONUS Lightning support has been added for all Maps customers. We expect this to remain available through Monday while we test things, so enjoy!
Beginning Monday we will restrict lightning to customers with an active Chaser/Hunter or CONUS Lightning subscription. The plan is to seamlessly transition between CONUS and Local lightning as you zoom in / out and based on your subscription status.

Ryan Hickman Maps does not include lightning. While we are testing the implementation, Maps customers will temporarily receive lightning. This is permitted within our license to the lightning provider.
Hunter and Chaser include Local Lightning. This week we will add the ability to choose between GRearth or Maps with your Hunter subscription. When combining Hunter with CONUS Lightning, the total fees would become $35 (old) / $36.99 (new). Chaser plus Maps would be $24.99 (old) / $26.98 (new), add CONUS lightning and you get $34.99 (old) / $36.98 (new). So basically $0.01 affords you Level 2 access.
The Maps price is $14.99 because that is what it costs to produce the model output. With GRearth we run an entire server to produce that output. The same is done for Maps. The difference is that we control the code that processes the models and the resulting product. We can make upgrades as necessary and simply ask customers to refresh their browser to receive the update; no installation required. Our product set already matches (and in some cases exceeds) what GRearth offers, including the Real-Time data (with some minor exceptions, including lack of customization support). Our planned features include a split screen view to compare models and products, social sharing (one click screenshots) and saved model product combinations along with full customization support similar to what we offer for our overlay feeds.
