it would be nice to add more models, like the CMC or the Euro Models, or the UKMET. Also to be able to compare the models would be great.

Ryan Hickman It is our intention to continue adding more models as we grow. Our current development phase requires that we load-test any additions. It takes quite a bit of computing power to generate these models because they are upscaled - dimensions are increased to improve the display at higher zoom levels and algorithmically smoothed to prevent pixelation due to the overall size increase. This is all done with Quality Control on the data (require that the standard variation is no more than 0.1 from the closest grid-point).
ECMWF is planned outright without an increase on price. It is our intention to grow this product to a point where there are enough customers for us to afford the Euro at the current Maps subscription rate. If it becomes obvious that Maps may not reach that milestone, we may consider the additional charge as an option to get the data. Lets just say the initial investment required would afford a pretty nice new car.

bob pleasant well i really like your maps and if you had to up the price some to add more features like i talked i would be for it. It's really nice and i have compared it to hazwx and they have nice map program, but i think you guys might have the edge on them, i've used both. I also know what you are saying about the models. I took weather forecasting classes online at penn state so i really watch the weather close. I have two facebook pages and working on me a new wordpress site.

Ryan Hickman We're still committed to adding as many models as we possibly can. So in order to stay true to that commitment, AllisonHouse is now running its own WRF. The current plan is to make this a Nested 4km model based on the NAM 12km (a.k.a. WRF-ARW). The domain will very likely be movable. For this reason, we're considering running 2 separate domains every 6 hours to accommodate multiple areas of interest.
I expect to have some initial tests ready by tomorrow. We're still working on adjusting the physics, domain and initialization data.

Steve Bishop Are we still considering adding more models ? I see we now have the NAM-WRF-HI , but doesn't seem operational yet.
Think we could see the GEM or UKMet anytime soon ?

Yes. That was the reason behind purchasing the new server and making it operational. This increases our production model processing capacity. Prior to this upgrade, we had reached the maximum allowed usage on the server and were out of CPU cycles.
NAM-WRF-HI is the Hawaii nest of the NAM-WRF. As far as I know, it should work just fine. (Just confirmed it does on my end.)
The delay behind adding the UKMet and GEM is their model format. The NCEP models are (mostly) unified in how they are output, allowing us to run a single decoder for each of the models. Any models we don't currently make available are because a special decoder must be written, which we will be doing in the coming weeks / months.
I expect to have special runs of the AH-WRF available this weekend / throughout the week as this low makes its way across the country.

Thanks for explaining the UKMet & GEM . You guys make all this look so easy I tend to forget all the hard work that it takes to put it all together.
The upgraded server is working great . Models loading much faster.
Been sitting here in Indiana tracking this snow that is coming our way . Glad I have the Maps program.
I'll be watching for the upgrades.
