Maps throwing rendering errors trying to use animated gif feature. I have yet to get a successful gif. We also need a start and end time window selector for all animations. I don't need 30 hours of animation.

Ryan Hickman Official comment Closing this as animated GIF was replaced with server-side video transcoding, which should've fixed this issue by not placing each captured image in your browser's memory. Instead, the captured image is sent to the server and disposed of client-side to conserve RAM.

Ryan Hickman Animated GIF is being replaced with animated video recording. GIFs aren't usable on Facebook anyway. We're testing this extensively with both cached and non-cached tiles.
Tip: Your problem is likely that you're anticipating a need to cache the frames. Don't do that. The GIF will record just fine if you click where you want to start, click record, and click stop when you want it to end.
We're aware of the need for shorter animations. It's a usability issue and takes a significant amount of effort to solve...
