"Base" needs a GIS subcategory. The first selection in GIS should be Major roadways. Down the road other user requested GIS features could be added. What about Tiger/Line shapefiles and placefiles. I also understand the limitations that Maps is a web based tool and not necessarily intended to replace my GR thick client.

Interstates kick in at zoom level 6 (+1 desktop, +2 mobile) and state highways / primary roads at zoom level 8 (+3 desktop / +4 mobile).
